IBMHOF ANNOUNCES THIS YEAR’S STRIKING CONTRIBUTION AWARD RECIPIENT

posted on

ARLINGTON, Texas – The International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame (IBMHOF) has announced that the St. Louis USBC association is the 2023 Striking Contribution Award winner.

The award is for recognition of an individual, institution or organization who recently has made an extraordinary contribution to the Hall of Fame. It was introduced in 2022, with John Tierney as the inaugural recipient.

The donation process was led by Susan Bonner who helped bring over 130 items to the IBMHOF. These items belonged to USBC Hall of Famers Myrtle Shulte and Berdie Speck, and included tournament medals and convention delegate badges during their time with the Women’s International Bowling Congress (WIBC).

Shulte was inducted into the USBC Hall of Fame in 1965 for Superior Performance while Speck was inducted one year later for Meritorious Service.

“We had these items in a box, and the committee determined that these items should be preserved,” said Bonner, “We are pleased to support the efforts of the Museum in sharing just a little part of our amazing history.”

The association is not done looking for items to donate either according to Bonner.

“We plan to look at some more items to donate to the Museum that we have in our archives that we are unable to display and share with the bowling community.”

The award will be presented at the USBC Convention during the IBMHOF presentation. Award recipients are selected by a committee for the award as appointed by the IBMHOF. There is no limit to the number of people who can be nominated for the award, and the award is scheduled to be presented annually pending qualified candidates.
