BENJAMIN CZARNOWSKI, SON OF ILLINOIS BOWLING PROPRIETOR, PRESENTED WITH $25,000 DAROLL AND DOLORES FREWING SCHOLARSHIP

Presentation Takes Place at BPAA’s International Bowl Expo in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Benjamin Czarnowski, now a graduate of IC Catholic Prep in Elmhurst, Illinois, is the 2026 recipient of the Daroll and Dolores Frewing Scholarship. Valued at $25,000, it is the richest scholarship in bowling.

Czarnowski was honored at International Bowl Expo on July 1, just prior to a keynote address by football legend Drew Brees. David and Janet Frewing pinch-hit for the scholarship’s namesakes in honoring Czarnowski.

“Dee and I want to offer our sincere congratulations to Ben,” said Daroll Frewing. “He joins a list of impressive and inspirational young people who have earned the scholarship since it was introduced in 2020.”

The recipient that year was Andrew Amore, followed by Avery Schenk (2021), Emma McCrary (2022), Aaliyah Friend (2023), Azia Martin (2024) and Ellie Boley (2025).

The Frewing Scholarship is available exclusively to children or grandchildren of Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America member center owners. Czarnowski qualified as the son of Chris Czarnsowki, an owner of Bowl Mor Streator in Streator, Illinois, as well as a center that’s being renovated in West Chicago, Illinois.

A stellar record of church and community involvement highlighted Ben Czarnowski’s application for the scholarship, complemented by a solid academic resumé. In several instances, he has followed other family members in achieving outstanding accomplishments, including matching his father’s status as an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America and his parents and older sister in being accepted to University of Illinois (UIUC). He also was accepted at Notre Dame, but said he felt the academic track at UIUC better fits his goals, which include going into accounting and getting more involved in the family’s burgeoning bowling business.

In addition to being recognized on the Bowl Expo stage and receiving the $25,000 scholarship, Czarnowski’s name and picture will be added to the Frewing Scholarship exhibit at the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame in Arlington, Texas. He also will be the subject of the August cover story in Bowling Center Management (BCM), the official magazine of the BPAA.
